Tell us if this sounds familiar. Your recruiting “partner” has trotted you across town for a coffee to “get to know you.”
You are on time; your partner is not. After ten minutes of awkwardly inspecting the entire populous of the coffeehouse for your recruiter you begin to panic.

It’s about that time you notice someone else scanning the coffee crowd in the same manner you are. Whew!
After the exchange of some benign pleasantries and a couple “softball” interview questions you begin to think that you’re off to a great start. Then you notice your partner is not writing anything down, or if they are, it appears to be too short to be a grocery list, let alone your career desires.
To add insult to injury, after a few minutes you quickly realize the person designated to be marketing you has no idea what you really do. You begin to wonder about this recruiter but the conversation is pleasant enough and you are assured you will be at the “top of their list” when something matches your skills.
You head home cautiously optimistic. But when your phone doesn’t ring the anxiety starts to kick in. After a week or two you muster up enough courage to call your recruiter. The receptionist tells you your recruiting partner is “in a meeting” but your anxiety builds when you do not get a message in return.
After a few days, you are back inspecting the same job descriptions on the same job boards wondering who actually writes those things. Then you start to wonder if every other candidate out there is more qualified than you are, and self-doubt begins to creep in.
